Ki-67 è una proteina nucleare, non istonica, che viene espressa solamente durante la fase attiva del ciclo cellulare (G1, S, g2 e M) ma non nelle rimanenti fasi (G0 e G1 iniziale). Sebbene l’antigene sia stato associato alla trascrizione del RNA ribosomiale, è strettamente collegato alla proliferazione cellulare.
L‘anticorpo Ki-67 può essere usato per identificare qualitativamente la presenza dell’antigene Ki-67 nelle sezione di tessuto fissate in paraffina (FFPE) usando metodiche di Immunoistochimica. L’utilizzo di questo anticorpo può aiutare nella identificazione di tumori proliferanti tra cui quelli cerebrali, del seno, della cervice e della prostata.
